We have had a mixed couple of weeks, after falling off at Aston I felt that although Flo was sound she wasn't quite herself and luckily trusted my instincts as she has a minor injury and so we are going to give her month off, just to let everything settle, which in a way is a good thing as that explains why she didn't come with me at Aston where she would have normally. But on the other hand George is really coming on he went to Weston Lawns for his first show last week and jumped double clear in both unaffiliated classes and then yesterday we took him to the clear round jumping at Vale View, Emilie Chandler who has given me lots of help over the years was giving advice in the middle which as always was very constructive and helpful, George was great jumping round a course of about 1m, he was a bit green but jumped brilliantly and is really exciting for next year, we have just entered our first event in September!! Billy has also been going really well, he also went to Weston Lawns last week I jumped our first 1.05m which was a single phase class so you 6 fences then straight on to jump off whether you are clear or not and the second 6 fences are 1.10m, he jumped great and made it feel easy just had one down when he spooked a bit on the corner before and just lost concentration, and at Vale View yesterday he was brilliant jumping clear round 1.05m then just one down at 1.10m due to me getting a bit deep to triple bar then not being quick enough to push him on down the distance so met it a bit wrong, but really chuffed with him, he is off to Aston Le Walls pre novice on saturday.
Back at Little Garendon it is all go as we have had one holiday livery in, one horse and rider at boot camp getting ready for the hunting season and two young horses to bring on, not to mention a mountain or rugs to repair and a few tack repairs, at least we never get bored!!
On Saturday we had the Fernie Hunt Pony Club event at Rolleston with Tex who is owned by Caroline and Charlie Sheffield, Jo Payne has been riding him and his flat work has really improved and he scored a good 33.4 he then went on to jump the only double clear in his section, both his show jumping and cross country were the best rounds he has done to date and he finished a brilliant 3rd.
We have had a very busy week, Archie has gone to his new home, I hadn't advertised him and wasn't planning to sell him at the moment but saw a post on #twittereventing looking for a horse which described him, so thought would post a video of him and thought no more about it but Stephanie e mailed me and said she would like to come and see him and that was that! He has a super home and got a lovely text today to say that he had settled in great and they had had a lovely first ride together today, I am sure they will have loads of fun and we all wish them the best of luck and look forward to watching them in the future.
I have spent the week at The Quorn Hunt Junior camp, it is brilliantly organised and has a really special feel about it, the ages range from 2-15yrs. I had a lovely group of 7-9yr olds, they all rode really well all week and tried really hard and was really pleased to see that they all went well at the ODE today, I feel like a proud mother especially as one of my ride won with the best dressage. I really enjoy teaching and to top off my great week got a lovely thank you card which one of the boys had written 10/10 thanks you're great! Already looking forward to next year.
Back at home Mum and Cherise have been running the yard, we have three horses with us on boot camp whilst their owners are on their hols, so lots to keep us busy . Had a fun time this morning we took Flo and George galloping, it was George's first time and he really began to get the hang of it and enjoyed himself, he may be in for a bit of a shock as has just been pootling about at home, where Cherise has been doing a fab job of improving him but with Archie gone he will have to step up a bit now and will be taking Archie's place at my dressage lesson with Steph Croxford on Sunday and show jumping lesson with Simon Nicholson on Monday!
