First of all an apology for being slow on updating my blog, Cherise has been away which equals me and Mum running round like idiots trying to do everything, but she is back looking tanned and relaxed and hopefully pleased to be back, and as she walked on the yard Saturday morning was greeted with the news we were leaving for Catton at 6am, welcome back! Catton Park is a fairly local event for us and one of my fovourites, I went to walk the course on Saturday night with my adviser Ila, for those that don't know that is my 2 year old daughter who thought the most important thing was finding the ice cream van! The course was lovely with lots of questions especially the water jumps but more of that later. I was pleased with our dressage and scored a fair mark of 37.3 I though it might be a bit better as her canter definitely felt better today but there you are, she was brilliant show jumping, she really loves her jumping and was very keen today but sprang round making it feel easy, she was just as fab xc including the first water, (pictured above) untill four from home where you came down a steep hill to a narrow brush, three brave stride to a triple arrow head brush and knowing she can sometimes add an extra stride I wasn't brave enough on the three and ended on three on a half and we had run out, so I kicked myself turned her round and she popped it, then at the second water it was a big log in two long or three short strides to a big chest in water, Flo verges on the careful side and has always been cautious in to water but I was really pleased with the way she jumped in really clean and was a lot braver but just didn't seem to read the question of the jump in the water and just said she couldn't do it so I circled round and still had to ride her strongly but she jumped it well and finished really well. Overall I was thrilled with Flo today as she feels really comfortable at this level now but I have to remember she is still quite green at times especially as she is so careful, but coming home safe and sound is the most important thing especially in light of the very sad day yesterday where two riders and one horse lost the their lives doing he sport we all love reminding us what is important in life, our thoughts are will all concerned.
Aston Le Walls
We had really good day at Aston le Walls last week despite the weather! We took Archie and Billie as massive thanks to Jo Payne for coming to help me in torrential rain. Billie was a star he did a lovely dressage to score 34 in sideways rain and jumped a foot perfect double clear, he felt fantastic and didn't put a foot wrong all day and finished 8th in a very competitive section. Archie did a lovely dressage to score a very good mark of 33 in his section, he went a little green in jumping it was his first BE100 and he just had a couple down in an otherwise good round and made the cross country feel easy.
