As you can see from the title above we have had a busy week, we went to Weston Lawns last week with Posh and Chester, it is such a great venue as it has two arenas going so you can take the babies and the more experienced horses with out being there all day, Posh jumped a really lovely round but we had fence two down as we didn't quite get the distance right but I was really pleased with her as she was very laid back and it is her first fence down since before Chirstmas!! Chester was a really good boy as it was his first time jumping there, he just had one down in the 75cm and the 85cm if anything the jumps weren't quite big enough to make him respect them, a bit more work needed at home to improve his canter but he is still very inexperienced and he took the whole day in his stride. Unfortunately he got kicked when we got home which ruled him out of our next outing to Vale View to do the arena eventing, so Cherise took Toffee as super sub. They went brilliantly in the 75cm but picked up 20 penalties due to rider navigation error! So they went again in the 85cm and flew round and we thought they had done enough to win it but they were given a mean stop at the water where Toffee just checked all was safe before going down the two steps into water, but she was awesome. I took Tex who belongs to Caroline Sheffield and he has not been out to a show for ages, he was fab just touching one pole in the show jumping, I was really pleased with him as when I did the 75cm on him last year he thought it was very hard work but his year he really enjoyed himself. Sunday we had a lovely day at the Quorn Hunt Point to Point which was as usual brilliantly run and a really good day out, and also heard that Coleorton Dane who I used to event was in the winning team at the Team Chase championships which is fab that he has found his dream job. Then on Monday I went to Witham Villa to do dressage with Posh and Flo, both did the best tests they have ever done and got the worst marks they have ever got, it is the first time in ages I have come away from a show really disappointed as I am very realistic and normally agree with the judges if they feel the horse has not gone well, but this time I couldn't believe my marks, but hey ho, I was pleased with the horses and I know they went better but sometime I feel the judges should look beyond impressive movement. Anyway I have Kim Sleath coming to give us some help with the dressage this afternoon so that will give us lots to think about and work on and hopefully she will see some improvement from last time.
Flo was back on top form today, she was a little to laid back in the dressage but was very accurate and obedient and scored a fair mark of 36.4, she jumped brilliantly show jumping and cross country just adding 4 time faults, not sure where I finished yet but will update as soon as I know. I have to say a big thank you to Cherise who got up at 4.30am this morning to come and help me and playing pro photographer and
Although it doesn't feel like it spring and summer must be on thier way as we were outdoor show jumping for the first time today with Posh and Flo. Posh jumped really well in the 1.05m which was one round against the clock and although I didn't put my foot down I did all the tight turns and finished 2nd out of over forty competitors, she then went on to jump really well in the 1.15m she just had a little tense time between fence two and three then took a big breath and jumped the rest brilliantly. Flo wasn't quite on top form and we had eight faults in both the 1.10m and the 1.15m, but hopefully given us both the wake up we need before Belton next week
I can't believe it is meant to be spring, it is still so cold!! Not to mention the foot of snow we have had, it definitely put a stop to any riding activities for a few days, luckily we weren't entered for any events but we did miss a planned show jump and dressage show, but as you can see from the photo I have kept myself busy repairing rugs and making some bits and bobs, like the matching dog collar and lead above, trying to get organised for a craft fair I am doing at Castle Donnington next Saturday. We have been busy riding this week, all the horses are going really well, below is a video of Toffee jumping through a grid, the oxer coming out is 1.20m which you can see she makes look easy! Hopefully we are off show jumping at the weekend and then we have Belton Horse Trials next Friday with Flo.
